Hello,
Our names are Uatchet and Nekhebet Juch and we are Millis Girl Scout Juniors. We would love to work with you on our Bronze Award Project, Millis Girl Scout Juliettes Crochet for a Cause! We plan to benefit the community in many ways with our project by teaching crochet basics to newcomers and new ideas for skilled crochet artists, showing children and adults ways that they can volunteer, supplying handmade reusable produce bags to the town, providing much needed supplies for the Purr-Fect Cat Shelter, and providing local families with food through the Millis Ecumenical Food Pantry for all products sold in Millis and Medway, and to Beverly Bootstraps and an animal rescue group in Beverly for ones sold there!
In order to do all of this we’ll be working very hard over the next few months hosting workshops in our home and would like to invite all of our friends and Girl Scout families! Girls can contact us alone or in groups to set up a date or join an existing workshop (no more than 5 beginners per crochet produce bag workshop, but experienced crocheters can come in other numbers to work on catnip treats) either in our home, yours, or at a public setting with or without their parents. For the ones in our home we’re planning to do a pot luck style dessert and serve cocoa, tea, etc.
Because it is an important part of Girl Scouting for us to raise the funds for the Bronze Award, and not pay for it ourselves, we do ask for a small suggested donation from workshop participants, but we can work with you if you’d rather the workshops be free to participants. We will create flyers for you (print and digital) to post about the workshops and would love to be able to work with you or your girls to schedule a few. The beginner crochet workshops have a suggested donation of $2.50 (or a 4oz ball of worsted weight cotton yarn) and would include us teaching the Chain and Single Crochet stitch to up to 5 participants/workshop who would crochet the walls of the produce bags which we would in turn sell in Millis in April to purchase donations for the Millis Ecumenical Food Pantry and later in Beverly (at a few public events and at our grandparents' store) to purchase goods for Beverly Bootstraps (a food pantry and outreach organization). Or experienced crochet artists may attend a gathering to work on amigurumi style catnip toys, using a variety of patterns that we’ll provide, which we would in turn sell in April in Medway to purchase supplies for the Purr-fect Cat Shelter and later in Beverly to benefit their local animal rescue/shelter. The suggested donation for the catnip toy gathering would be for participants to bring their own worsted weight cotton yarn and batting/polyfill or $1 per toy to use ours, using either our crochet hooks or theirs and we’ll provide all of the catnip/sewing thread! Friends and family are more than welcome to participate with you!
Other parts of our proposed plan include:
- Hosting workshops in our home (or hosted by others) for up to 5 friends at a time, with a suggested materials donation of $2.50 or a ball of the needed yarn, to learn basic crochet stitches and help create crochet produce bags to benefit the local food pantries.
- Hosting gatherings in our home (or hosted by others) for experienced crochet artists to create amigurumi style crochet cat nip treats with their own yarn and batting or with a suggested materials donation of $1.
- Offering a few crochet workshop/gatherings through community locations such as the library, senior center, YMCA, or other Girl Scout troops, hopefully!
- Setting up donation-booth sale(s) in Millis, offering the produce bags with a $10 donation, which we will use to provide goods for the Millis Ecumenical Food Pantry and later in Beverly to provide goods for Beverly Bootstraps.
- Setting up donation-booth sale(s) in Medway , offering the catnip toys with a $5 donation, which we will use to provide goods for the Millis Purr-fect Cat Shelter and later in Beverly for their local animal shelter/rescue organization.
- Delivering the donations to the four charities.
Please let us know if our proposal will work for you or if you would like to change anything!
Thank you very much!
